Free TV Time for Top Candidates

Free TV time for top candidates

Most of the money spent by politicians is for TV advertising.  Media companies make a lot of money using public airwave frequencies given to them.  Is it to much to ask that in return they should have to run free ads during election campaigns?  It’s the least they can do to make up for the sorry state of the news they present.  They have sufficient profit margins, subsidized by public airwave availability, to give away some free air time, or time at a reduced price.

There is of course opposition to this, which can be partially blunted by tying free TV time to public financing of campaigns with fixed limits.
