Supreme Court -The US Supreme Court has been the voice of sanity once again, ruling that the Federal Sentencing Guidelines are just that - guidelines. A judge could not be overruled on appeal for not imposing the guideline sentence for crack cocaine. After the decision, the Sentencing Commission laudably decided to review its guidelines and reduced the sentences of many crack cocaine convicts.
Second Chance Act - This bill has been introduced into Congress to help prisoners when they are released from prison. It would reauthorize and expand state and local demonstration re-entry projects that provide family reunification, job training, education, housing, substance abuse treatment and mental health services.
